Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

This is a verse I had often heard, but it was only during my first mission trip that I truly began to understand the importance of putting on the full armor of God. The verse before this reminds us that our wrestle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, authorities, and spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

The truth is, we are constantly in spiritual warfare. The question is, do we recognize it? Putting on the armor of God is not something to be reserved for special events or seasons of ministry. It is something we must do daily, and we are called to always be prepared.

So stand firm and hold your ground, having put on:

• The Belt of Truth - reading the Bible, knowing His Word and character to discern and refute lies from the enemy
• The Breastplate of Righteousness - Christ’s righteousness credited to us through His finished work on the cross
• The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace - walking in the firm stability and readiness that comes from the Good News of Christ
• The Shield of Faith - to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one
• The Helmet of Salvation - renewing our minds through scripture and resting in the assurance of our identity and security in Christ.
• The Sword of the Spirit - proclaiming God’s Word against lies and confusion

May we always remember and choose to put on the full armor of God daily, standing firm in Him and from the position of victory!
